This project has been funded with support from the European Commission.

The project's "Travelling around the World through tales main objective was to motivate students to show an interest in reading tales through reading a range of stories from different cultures including those from our partners, producing joint stories with each other and joining in with drama activities. Collaboration in our partnership including the staff and students, has increased the motivation of the pupils to read and enjoy different tales. Through the tales and the termly themes, all pupils in our partnership have learnt about the cultures and customs of different countries in Europe. During the 2 years we have worked on six themes, one in each term. During the first year of the project, we have learnt about traditional tales of each partner country related to the topics: the Human Body, Animals and the Past. For the second year, we worked on the topics: Food, the Environment and Science Fiction. After the children listened to stories, they developed their learning across the curriculum completing activities in many different ways. Thus, the children were highly motivated to participate in our project. All the schools in the partnership have been able to develop their curriculum through the project, finding different ways to bring the global dimension into the children's learning in creative ways and giving  them more opportunities to develop their understanding of diversity and different cultures and customs in their lessons. We aimed to create a balance between technology and tradition, so the students could see the importance of the developing technological world but also appreciate the beauty of traditional books and stories. We have developed the children's skills in many areas including art, writing and science. In addition, we have used new technologies to communicate with other schools and share our work. Through working with our partners the children have developed knowledge of traditional stories of their own country and also stories and traditions from other different cultures. As our project has been conducted in English, another aim of our project was for students in all partner schools to develop their abilities to communicate with students who do not speak the same language as themselves. Students have developed their understanding of the need for clear and concise communication methods and have developed their language skills. A large part of our project was developing an understanding of the cultures and traditions of our partner countries. Students were then taught to identify and respect these differences. Students in each country have researched our partner countries, learnt songs and dances and about famous story characters from stories traditional to those countries.
